"Books on Wheels": The Experience of The Vladikavkaz Railway's Mobile Library in The Early 1900s

"Books on Wheels": The Experience of The Vladikavkaz Railway's Mobile Library in The Early 1900s

The history of the creation and initial stage (1900–1905) of the mobile library of the Vladikavkaz railway is considered. It was revealed that in fi ve years the library-wagon has formed a significant audience of subscribers - up to 500 people, the project satisfied readers' requests, primarily for popular fi ction. The article investigated book preferences and the composition of readers, the specifics of the mobile library, determined the significance of this library project for the development of book culture in the Don and the North Caucasus.
