The Scream and the Silence as Paralinguistic Markers of the Family World Order in A.P. Chekhov's Long Story "Muzhiki"
The article examines scream and silence – non-verbal components of communication presented in dialogical structures of A.P. Chekhov's long story "The Muzhiki ". The paralinguistic means are placed in the remarks to the characters’ replicas using verbs, verb and noun phrases. Scream and silence are the non-verbal characteristics contrasted by sonority: loud sound – complete absence of sound. The oppositeness of non-verbal components in terms of sonority corresponds to a space comparison. Scream and silence collide with each other as well as village and city and their representatives: the Zhukovites Osip, Granny, Kiryak, Fekla, Marya, Motka and the Muscovites Olga, Nikolay, Sasha, who previously lived together. The analysis of communicative situations containing scream and silence allows to describe the communication specificity in the Chikildeev family.
