Religion as the practice of transcendence: philosophical substantiation of the definition

The article is devoted to philosophical substantiation for the definition of religion as a practice of transcendence. It examines the tradition of using the concepts of «transcendence» and «transcendent» and clarifi es semantic meaning of these terms. The conditions of applicability of the concept of «transcendence» to represent the essence of religion for social and humanitarian studies are specified in the article.
